There are a few things you need to know when picking out the dumpster for your next job. First, there are 5 main sizes of dumpsters that most dumpster rental companies will carry; 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 yard. Some companies will carry other sizes, just be sure to ask or check out their page on Premier Dumpster Rental as we list all the sizes the company will carry. The ‘yard’ refers to cubic yard, the standard measurement for dumpsters in America. Dumpster rental prices will vary by size and tonnage. So now you know the sizes, but which one is the right size for your project?
10 Yard Dumpster
The 10 yard is obviously the smallest of the bunch, and is good if you are doing an attic, basement or garage clean-out. It holds about 5 pickup truck loads and will fit nicely on a smaller driveway. Commonly, these dumpsters are 12 ft. long by 8 ft. wide by 4 ft. high. This is a good starting point if you have a smaller job.
20 Yard Dumpster
Twice as large as the 10 yard, this dumpster is the most popular size. It works well for both residential and commercial projects and is ideal for small demolition projects, new construction, larger garage clean out, kitchens, bathrooms, roofing, landscaping and more. This is a good starting point if you think the 10 yard might be too small. This is a versatile dumpster with dimensions coming in at 22 feet long by 8 feet wide by 4 feet high.
30 Yard Dumpster
This is a large dumpster great for adding a room to your home, demolition including lots of furniture or appliances, clearing of decks, large landscaping jobs, etc. The dimensions on this dumpster are 22x8x6ft.
40 Yard Dumpster
Usually the largest size a dumpster rental company will carry, this dumpster holds 40 cubic yards of waste. This is mostly used for new construction and for commercial jobs. It is pretty huge so make sure you have room! Dimensions of this dumpster are 22 ft. long by 8 ft. wide by 7 ft. high.
When choosing your size it is a great idea to run your project by the sales person from the local dumpster company. They usually have a lot of experience and can be a great help in determining what size you are going to need. So next time you rent a dumpster, make sure you get the right size!
